So, while I admire my partner's new focus on getting our new and improved blog updated every day, multiple times, he has neglected to share a proper introduction to the new site with our readers. Or perhaps he felt it best I do the honors. Either way, here we are with a new look and new focus for the blog.
As you have read earlier, Tom had started this blog up as a sort of joke a few years ago. The blog Whatdoestomthink had always been a little side joke that allowed him to vent his random (and I mean random) views on gaming, music, hell anything that popped into his mind. Overtime, it grew more video game focused, and more like an opinion column rather than a joke that tore everything down, especially after I came on as a regular contributor.
The decision was made by Tom - and subsequently me - to redo the blog into something that could be taken seriously, at least at first glance. What you see now, and what you will be seeing in the future, is a blog that caters to video games and gamers. Both of us are gamers, and have been for most of our 23-24 years alive. We are both students and professionals with jobs. Video games are our hobby and our passion, along with many other things. It is something we take seriously, but not so seriously we can't look at things from an objective and sarcastic point of view. We have our likes and dislikes, but nothing is so sacred (except for Tom's FFVI) that it can't be the subject of scrutiny.
This blog is dedicated to bringing people who love video games as much as we do news, stories, tidbits, and general commentary about the hobby we all enjoy. We are not journalists though. We are not a Kotaku, Gamespot, IGN, or whatever. The news we bring you can be found elsewhere on the internet quicker than we can give it to you. However, with our news comes analysis. We analyze stories and announcements from a gamer perspective. We will laugh at things that make no sense, call people out when they deserve to be ridiculed, and generally say out loud what many gamers say to themselves, all while posting fun little things in the interim (scroll down to see the depiction of a Big Daddy as Bomberman, and you'll see what I mean).
What you'll eventually be seeing is more tweaks made to the site, new links, featured series, and eventually the resurrection of the podcast that has been on a temporary sabbatical. We plan to update every day with minor stories and posts, while also bringing one full length article a week. It is our belief that the majority of readers who have visited want longer articles, but don't have the time to read them on a daily or semi-daily basis. This and other fun surprises are coming within the next few weeks, so stay tuned.
And as always, please leave us comments and suggestions, now more than ever. Let us know what you would like to see, if you want to see more or less of something, have any good ideas for a series of articles you want to see written (and even whom they would be written by). Tom and I have different personalities and writing styles. His take on an issue will be different than mine, so expect to see a variety of opinions and stories in the posts to come. And most of all, enjoy!
Vae victas!
